At-home pet euthanasia

Before

Your first step is a telephone call. Together, we will review your pet’s case and discuss options.

Should there be no compassionate alternative to improve your pet’s health and quality of life, you and I will then talk about how to make that decision and plan next steps, including handling the remains (ie. cremation, urn, etc.)

During

When I arrive at your home, we will review the plan we agreed upon and clear up any last questions you may have. At this point, you and any other loved ones can say your goodbyes in total privacy, taking as much time as you need.

The actual euthanasia happens in three stages:

1) Injection of a sedative (tranquilizer)

Following this injection, your pet will fall into a sleep-like state. Sedation increases your pet's comfort, so that they relax and remain motionless during the procedure. It takes just a few minutes to take effect, and essentially involves a loss of sensation or consciousness.

2) Injecting the euthanasia solution

At this point, your pet will be unconscious. When you're ready, the final treatment will be administered and breath will gently cease.

3) Declaration of death

After the last breath, cardiorespiratory arrest is confirmed by auscultation and the absence of a palpable pulse.

After

Once this process has been completed, you will have the opportunity to spend one last moment with your pet. I, of course, will dispose of your pet’s remains and proceed with your final wishes.
